Mediatek reveals 5G smartphone chips
Dimensity 920 includes hardware-based 4K HDR video capture, supporting up to four concurrent cameras and sensors up to 108Mpixel, and the company is claiming a 9% boost in gaming performance compared to its Dimensity 900 predecessor. An octa-core Arm Cortex-A78 running at up to 2.5GHz is at the heart of its processing, along with LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 storage.
Active display management is implemented, to adjusts display refresh rate according to the game or user-interface, raising it during intense action and otherwise lowering it to save power. The company’s HyperEngine 3.0 is there for gaming, with 5G call and data concurrency.
Dual VoNR (voice over new radio) is supported, as is 2×2 MIMO Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, Bluetooth 5.2 and multi-GNSS.
The second chip, Dimensity 810, is built around an octa-core Cortex-A76 running at up to 2.4GHz.
It offers 120Hz display refresh and support for cameras up to 64Mpixel with noise reduction (MFNR and MCTF). “Premium camera features include artistic AI-colour in collaboration with Arcsoft, and noise reduction for low-light photography”, said Mediatek.
For gaming the 810 gets the HyperEngine 2.0.
Both chips support 5G standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) networking, 5G two carrier aggregation (2CC) including mixed mode FDD+TDD, dynamic spectrum
sharing (DSS) support, true dual SIM 5G (5G SA + 5G SA) and VoNR.
“Delivering a boost in performance, display intelligence and image brilliance, these Dimensity chipsets will improve user experiences and deliver advanced 5G features and capabilities to 5G smartphones,” said MediaTek’s general manager JC Hsu.
Expect to see the products launch in Q3.
